Develop a next-gen food and beverage IoT product with Orange

Have you ever thought about how your favourite foods get from the factory to your fridge? Take a moment to think about it; billions of beer and wine bottles; snack foods; crates of fresh produce and boxes of frozen goods are shipped around the globe every day. How do companies make sure everything arrives safe and ready for you to pick up in your local store?

Connect with industry experts, mentors and potential investors – all while competing for a cash prize of €20,000.

Orange Business Services knows this is a massive task for the Food and Beverage (F&B) Industry. Items regularly get misplaced, damaged or stolen in transit; resulting in spoilt food, lost revenue and frustrated customers. As more and more goods are shipped every year, the problem continues to grow. As a Point.IoT Challenge Partner, Orange wants you to use IoT and Galileo satellite positioning to give food producers access to the high-quality data they need to optimise their operations.

This use case by Orange asks you to develop an IoT integrated solution that caters specifically to the F&B industry. They are looking for an innovative packaging product (or add-on) that provides accurate, real-time information about items as they move from producer to shop counter. Your product will need to stand up to the challenges of F&B distribution; able to withstand the extremes of high and low temperatures, high-impact handling and frequent repeat use. Most importantly, it will feed high-quality location and condition data to operators – regardless of where the product is on its journey. The result will be greater transparency and accountability across the industry, with producers, retailers (and everyone in between) empowered to minimise their losses and maximise their efficiency.

As an infrastructure operator, technology integrator and supplier of value-added services, Orange is already working with players across the F&B supply chain to lead their digital transformation. They know first-hand what these companies are looking for and can provide Point.IoT participants with valuable market insight. This is the perfect opportunity for talented entrepreneurs and developers to create a product that ensures your local store never runs out of your favourite foods again!

Are you up for the challenge?

10 ambitious teams will be selected to take part in Point.IoT 2020; each solving real-world industry challenges, using IoT and satellite positioning data. Throughout the programme you will connect with industry experts, mentors and potential investors – all while competing for a cash prize of €20,000.
